Advice from Dacorum Borough Council

Bird flu.
Advice from the Department of the Environment Farming & RuralAffairs (DEFRA) remains unchanged for the moment after tests on a swanfound dead in Fife, Scotland have found the H5N1 strain of bird flu.

If residents find any dead swans, more than three dead birds of the samespecies or more than five dead birds of different species in the samelocation, please ask them to contact the (DEFRA) help line on 08459 335577.

At the moment, a one off dead garden bird is not a problem. Residents donot need to notify DEFRA and can dispose of these themselves, without anyrisk, providing they follow some basic hygiene precautions. See theCouncil’s web site for further details or go to www.defra.gov.uk.
